The Charade Continues

The men that run the NCAA and the fine institutions within the NCAA continue to make themselves seem as intelligent as a classroom full of pre-schoolers. I am sure one of these two people you will recognize; lets start with Cam.

Cam Newton has been deemed eligible to play in Sundays SEC title game against South Carolina. Even though the NCAA has established that Cecil Newton did ask for improper benefits. The question is, was there a precedent for a situation like this? According to USC athletic director Pat Haden, there is.

“In the Reggie Bush case, when the parent [did] something inappropriate the kid and the school suffered,” Haden said. I was always told the parent is the child,” Haden said. “That’s what we’ve been telling our kids. If the parent does something inappropriate the child suffers the consequences.”

Why does Cam get by with no repercussions, but Reggie Bush gave back the Heisman, USC vacated a title and received a post-season ban? Is it because Auburn is line to play for the National title and Newton is the run away favorite Heisman? Maybe we can go down a more radical road. Is it because TCU is lurking at #3 and heaven forbid a non-BCS team is allowed to play for a national title.

I will say if Cam  did not have knowledge it is a shame that his father has clouded what has truly been a wonderful season by an extraordinary player.

Who is that other guy? Is that Orville Redenbacher? No, this "gentleman" is E. Gordon Gee, the president of the Ohio State University (I think it is a law, all men with the name E. Gordon must be a raging douche).

What did he do? He capped all over the non-BCS teams, especially Boise St. and TCU. I do applaud him for saying what most of use are thinking: teams in BCS conferences play a much tougher schedule in turn a one loss BCS school could/should be more deserving of a BCS bowl or a shot at the national title. However you cannot refer to the teams they play as the "Little Sisters of the Poor" when your school, OSU, has a softer strength of schedule according to Jeff Sagarin's rankings.

Now that this inconvenient fact has been brought to his attention he has gone back to the media with his tail between his legs.

Ironically these "institutions of higher learning" continue to operate as if they are purposefully ignoring logic when it comes to college athletics; because we all now it's all about the money, not the student-athlete.
